Kuwait reports 813 new coronavirus infections, 1 death

KUWAIT CITY — Kuwait on Friday registered 813 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, taking the total number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in the country to 48,672, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health carried by Kuwait News Agency.

Most of the new patients contracted the infection as a result of their interaction with the already positive cases while some of the cases are being investigated for their sources of infection, the Health Ministry's spokesman Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad said in a daily press briefing.

Of the new cases, 385 are expatriates from different nationalities while the remaining 428 are Kuwaiti citizens.

The ministry also reported one more death, bringing the total number of virus-related fatalities so far in the country to 360.

According to the spokesman, there are 144 patients receiving necessary medical care in intensive care units.

Meanwhile, 42 more people were discharged from quarantine facilities and will have to spend 14 additional days in mandatory home isolation.

The spokesman added that the ministry conducted 4,149 coronavirus tests over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of COVID-19 tests so far in the country to 399,498.

Earlier in the day, the ministry said that 886 more patients have recovered from the deadly disease over the past 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries in the country to 39,279.
