MUSCAT — Oman on Wednesday registered 1,142 new coronavirus cases and two more virus-related deaths, bringing the total number of confirmed COVID-19 infections and fatalities in the Sultanate to 33,536 and 142 respectively, the country's health ministry said in a statement carried by Oman News Agency.

Oman has recently seen a spike in coronavirus cases with over 1,000 new infections being reported over the last few days.

Of the newly detected cases, 671 are Omani citizens and 471 of them are expatriates from different countries, according to the ministry’s statement.

The ministry said that 693 more patients have recovered from the disease, raising the total number of recoveries to 17,972.

The ministry also said that it has conducted 3,585 coronavirus tests over the past 24 hours. It added that there are 100 patients currently admitted to intensive care units.
