MUSCAT — Oman recorded 896 new coronavirus cases, 505 of which were detected in foreigners expatriates, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 28,566, the Ministry of Health said on Saturday.

The other 391 cases were detected in Omani citizens.

Meanwhile, 806 people recovered. The total number of recoveries in the country is now 14,780.

Last week, Oman set up checkpoints in popular tourist spots across the country to prohibit people from entering, local daily the Times of Oman reported.

Checkpoints were set up in popular spots such as Dhofar province, Jabal Shams, Jabal Akhdar and Masirah Island, in an effort to reduce the spread of coronavirus in the country.

Authorities have also decided to close the coastal area of Duqm – Oman’s new socioeconomic development – until July 3.

The checkpoints are being manned by the Royal Oman Police. — Agencies
