KUWAIT CITY — Kuwait on Friday confirmed 604 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of COVID-19 infections in the country to 38,678, the Kuwaiti news agency KUNA reported citing a statement from the Ministry of Health.

The Health Ministry also said that five more people have died from the virus, bringing the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in the country to 313.

According to the ministry's spokesman Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad, among the newly detected cases, there 313 Kuwaiti citizens while the remaining are expatriates from different countries.

There are currently 8,175 patients in hospitals who are receiving the necessary medial are and out of whom 193 are in intensive care units according to the official.

Earlier in the day, the ministry announced that a total of 678 patients have recovered from the virus, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 30,190.

According to the spokesman, Kuwait so far has done a total of 349,412 virus tests including 3,087 over the past 24 hours,

On Thursday, Kuwait’s Health Minister Sheikh Dr. Basel Al-Sabah reiterated the need to strictly follow coronavirus precautionary measures. He said that the failure to abide by the regulations and over-indulgence in family visits during lockdown has led to further spread of the deadly disease, warning the situation might "get out of hand."
