KUWAIT CITY — Kuwait’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Interior Minister Anas Al-Saleh said on Tuesday that the country’s security is a red line and combating human trafficking is his one of the top priorities.

The Kuwaiti deputy premier made the statement during a parliamentary discussion on the ministry’s report on human trafficking cases, Kuwait News Agency reported.

Al-Saleh asserted that the names of those involved in human trafficking cases are with the Public Prosecution.

Kuwaiti interior minister’s remarks assume significance in the light of allegations that a few Kuwaiti lawmakers, the current and the former, along with senior government officials had financial dealings with a controversial Bangladeshi lawmaker, who is currently in Kuwait and facing charges of human trafficking, money laundering, and exploiting his compatriot workers.

Referring to the particular case, Al-Saleh had said in a statement issued on Saturday that this was one of the largest cases of human trafficking.

Combating human trafficking and illegal residence is one of the main priorities of the Ministry of Interior and the efforts made by security men made a lot of progress in terms of pursuing the suspects or in terms of reforming legislation, the statement said.

Investigations revealed the existence of suspicious financial transactions carried out by a network of officials with weak souls in cooperation with companies that facilitated these operations, the statement added.
