MANAMA — Bahrain on Friday reported 600 new cases of COVID-19, taking the total number of confirmed coronavirus infections in the kingdom to 17,269, according to a statement from the country’s health ministry.

Of the new cases, 347 of them were expatriate workers while 249 contracted the infection from the positive cases. Meanwhile, four cases were travel-related.

The new cases were detected after the health authorities conducted over 8,916 new coronavirus tests on Thursday, taking the total number of tests done in the so far to 403,036.

According to the ministry, the total number of active cases stands at 5,330, of which 137 cases were receiving treatment, and 10 were in critical condition.

The ministry also announced two more deaths — one was a 48-year-old Bahraini woman and a 60-year-old male expatriate. Both of them were suffered from underlying and chronic health problems.
