Eastern Province Municipality uses smart helmets to combat coronavirus

DAMMAM — Eastern Province Municipality has started to use smart helmets that can monitor the temperature of individuals in public and gathering places in implementation of the precautionary measures taken to prevent the spread of coronavirus, Saudi Press Agency reported.

The mayor of the Eastern Province, Eng. Fahad Bin Mohammed Al-Jubeir, said that the helmets use thermal radiation to measure temperatures from a distance of five meters. It can scan up to 200 people a minute, triggering an alert if a fever is detected, he added.

Municipality’s employees have been trained to use them to provide the highest levels of prevention and health safety along with the procedures followed in commercial centers.

Eng. Al-Jubeir added that if they monitor any person suffering from a rise in temperature, they will follow approved procedures and notify health authorities to complete the necessary measured.
