930 new cases in Oman; no fresh recoveries reported

MUSCAT -- Oman recorded 930 new cases of the novel coronavirus but no new recoveries, which brings the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 16,016 while the total number of recoveries stands 3,451, according to the Ministry of Health.

Expatriates make up 691 of the new infections, while Omani citizens make up 239.

The death toll in Oman is currently 72, according to the ministry.

The ministry continued to urge people to adhere to precautionary measures in order to slow the spread of the virus.

“With our commitment to health isolation and social distancing, we will prevent ourselves, our families and our community from the spread of the coronavirus,” the ministry said in a statement.

Oman announced its first two cases of COVID-19 on Feb. 24, two Omani women who had caught the virus in Iran. The country had only confirmed 192 cases by the end of March. -- Agencies
