MUSCAT — Oman’s on Friday recorded 424 new coronavirus cases, raising the total number of confirmed infections in the Sultanate to 6,794, the country’s Ministry of Health said in a statement carried by Oman News Agency.

The new cases include 191 Omanis and 233 expatriates, the ministry said without giving a breakdown of the nationalities of the expatriate patients.

Earlier in the day, the ministry announced one more death, taking the total number of virus-related fatalities in the Sultanate to 32.

The deceased was a 70-year-old Omani national, according Oman's Ministry of Health tweeted a statement.

The total recoveries from the disease in the country have reached 1,821, the ministry said.

Oman this week stepped up precautionary measures to curb the spread of the virus, including banning all gatherings during the Eid Al-Fitr holiday, including the Eid prayer and celebrations, and warned violators of jailing and fine penalties.
