Kuwait detects 1,041 new coronavirus cases, 5 deaths

KUWAIT CITY — Kuwait on Thursday detected 1041 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of infections in the country to 18,609, Kuwait News Agency reported quoting the Health Ministry.

The ministry also reported five more deaths, raising to 129 the total number of virus-related fatalities in Kuwait.

Of the newly detected cases, 325 are Indians, 211 are Kuwaitis, 177 are Egyptians and 139 are Bangladeshi, according to the ministry’s spokesman Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad.

The spokesman added that there are currently 181 patients in intensive care.

The ministry also said the new cases were discovered after carrying out 4,757 tests in the past 24 hours.

So far, Kuwait has conducted more than 261,071 coronavirus tests.

Some of the newly reported cases are of individuals who were infected from others who had the virus, while others are under epidemic investigation.

None of the newly reported cases were linked to travel.
