RIYADH — More than SR40 million have been collected through “Zakaty” app during the holy month of Ramadan, the General Authority of Zakat and Tax (GAZT) said in a statement carried by Saudi press Agency on Wednesday.

The collected money will be disbursed to people covered by the social security program overseen by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, the GAZT said.

It also said that more than 111,000 people have downloaded the application on their smart phones during the holy month, while the number of visits to the “Zakaty” portal during the same period reached more than 341 thousand visits.

The authority has provided these services to facilitate individuals and enable them to pay their Zakat electronically in addition to the "Zakaty" phone service.

The electronic services launched by GAZT using latest technology aim to cope with the precautionary measured by the Kingdom to limit the spread of coronavirus. The app also features a reminder of the Zakat due timings, a calculator and other related information about such payments.

The GAZT has also set up the special helpline number 19993 to answer queries on Zakat during the month of Ramadan.
