Qatar records 1,311 new COVID-19 infections, 84 recoveries

JEDDAH — Qatar announced 1,311 confirmed new cases of coronavirus, taking the total number of COVID-19 infections in the country to 20,201, the county’s Ministry of Public Health said in a statement.

Health authorities also recorded 84 new recoveries during the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries to 2,370.

So far, 12 people have died from the coronavirus in Qatar.

The ministry said that it conducted 3,963 tests in last 24 hours and has so far carried out 120,458 tests.

Most of the new cases are of expatriates who came into contact with the previously infected people, the ministry added.

According to the ministry, the reason for the recent spike in number of new cases is due to its extensive and proactive investigations covering all segments of the society. — SG
