Saudi Arabia reports 1,687 new corona cases, 9 deaths

RIYADH —
The gradual increase in the number of daily coronavirus cases in the Kingdom continued on Wednesday with the ministry of health reporting 1,687 new infections and nine new deaths. This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 31,938 and the virus-related death toll to 209.

The Kingdom has witnessed 1,352 recoveries, bringing the number of total recovered cases in Saudi Arabia to 6,783.

“Comprehensive testing is entering a new phase, self-evaluation. Around one million people self-evaluated themselves, this contributed to the early detection of cases,” health ministry spokesman Dr. Muhammad Al-Abdel Ali was quoted by Saudi PressAgency (SPA) as saying.

The new technique of self evaluation has helped in discovering 300 coronavirus infections, Dr. Al-Abdel Ali said.

The highest number of 312 newly-detected cases were from Jeddah, followed by 308 in Makkah, 292 in Madinah, 163 in Taif and 149 in Riyadh. There were 93 infections in Jubail, 84 in Dammam, 53 in Hufof, 30 in Al-Khobar, 28 in Tabuk, 22 in Sabya, 21 in Yanbu, 18 in Qunfudah, 16 in Dhahran, 12 in Baish and 11 in Majaridah.

Additionally, there were nine cases in Umluj, seven in Khamis Mushayt, five in Dhurma and four each in Mahayel, Dhahran, and Kharj; three each in Al-Jafr, Qatif, Qaryat Al-Ula, Buraidah, Al-Mithnab, Sabt Alalaya, Qia, Dheba and Rafha; two each in Bisha, Al-Lith and Adhum; one case each in Al-Khafji, Salwa, Al-Badaea, Wadi Al-Fara, Maisan, Al-Kamil, Al-Ghazala, Ar'ar and Layla.
