Saudi arrested for spreading rumors

RIYADH –
A Saudi citizen in his 30s has been arrested here for spreading rumors on social media related to measures taken to curb the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

The accused appeared in a video that went viral. Riydh police, after due investigation, identified the man and arrested him, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) cited the spokesman of Riyadh Police Col. Shaker Bin Sulaiman Al-Tuwaijri as stating on Saturday.

Pertinent regulatory measures have been taken against him to refer him to the Prosecution General, the spokesman said.

In the video clip, the accused had claimed that on a certain date performing prayers in the mosques would be allowed and the curfew timings would be altered.
