RIYADH — Three Saudi female students have bagged top positions in the European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad.

Representing Saudi Arabia, a team of four Saudi students participated remotely in the five-day competition, which was held on April 16 to 20 in the Netherlands, due to outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

The European Olympiad is international mathematics competition similar in style to the International Mathematical Olympiad.

The winning students are as follows:

Thana Khalid Muhammad Al-Haidari won the silver medal.

Jude Walid Muhanna Bahwini won the bronze medal.

Lara Raed Jamil received a certificate of appreciation.

The Kingdom’s team had undergone many intensive training programs aimed at developing the scientific skills of the participants, and the students were nominated to participate in the Olympics based on the results achieved in the training forums held by King Abdul Aziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba) in cooperation with its partners.

Saudi team has been participating in the European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad since its inception, and competed for the prizes of its first sessions in Britain 2012. Teams representing Saudi Arabia in these contests have so far bagged 15 awards, including two gold medals, four silver medals, six bronze medals and three certificates of appreciation. — SPA
