JEDDAH — Sheikh Marran’s Award presented for scientific research is named after Sheikh Marran Bin Muteb Bi Qwayyed, the Head Sheikh of Al Dawaser tribe.



The award was created three years ago by Al Dawaser tribe to encourage Saudi school students, especially members of tribes, to participate in scientific research and win awards for their works.



The award is also given away to those who excel in the knowledge of Qur’an and Sunnah.



Dr. Mohammad Bin Marran, general supervisor of the award, told Saudi Gazette: "The award is meant to enforce scientific innovation, beef up the competition between different tribe members here in the kingdom as well as deepening national unity, and that’s why it’s open for all participants who belong to other tribes."



He added: "The Award’s Board includes a consultative council consisting of top government officials, religious scholars, university professors and other notables, in addition to the secretariat general."



The last award ceremony was attended by Prince Sultan Bin Salman, head of the Saudi Tourism and Antiquities Commission.



This year’s award ceremony will also be attended by notables and other top officials from the Kingdom and GCC.



Marran said: "It took us five years to get the approval from the Ministry of Education, and now we are on the right track. We launched the award for the first time in 2011. More participants are enrolling year after year, and the more the time passes, the more we get momentum."



The award provides equal opportunities to both male and female participants.
