UN envoy lauds Saudi role in Yemen peace efforts

RIYADH — The special envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Yemen, Martin Griffiths, has appreciated Saudi Arabia’s efforts for a solution for the situation in south Yemen and highlighted the pivotal role of the Kingdom and its leadership in supporting UN efforts in Yemen, according to a press statement made by his office. Griffiths made the remarks during his meeting with Deputy Minister of Defense Prince Khalid Bin Salman in Riyadh on Thursday. The special envoy briefed Prince Khalid on the progress achieved in the implementation of the Hodeidah Agreement, in particular the activation of the cease-fire monitoring mechanism and its positive impact on protecting civilians, strengthening humanitarian action, and creating a conducive environment in support of confidence-building measures. Griffiths also called upon all parties to show the flexibility needed to start a comprehensive exchange of prisoners and detainees as soon as possible.
