NEW YORK — Sheffield United have broken the club's transfer record a third time in the current window by signing French striker Lys Mousset from Bournemouth on a three-year deal, the newly promoted Premier League outfit announced on Sunday.

United did not disclose the fee but British media reported they had paid Bournemouth 10 million pounds ($12.50 million) for the 23-year-old forward.

"Lys is big, quick and a different type of threat at the top of the pitch to what we already have," United manager Chris Wilder told the club's website.

"He'll prove to be a great fit for us and the fact that he selected us above other options shows he's hungry to do well. It is a fantastic bit of business in the current market and we're looking forward to him joining up with the squad."

Mousset is United's fifth recruit of the close season and the latest record signing following the arrival of Luke Freeman and Callum Robinson. The club also brought in Phil Jagielka and Ravel Morrison in their bid to stay in the top flight.

Mousset could make his United debut against his former club when they meet in their Premier League opener on Aug. 10. — Reuters
