JEDDAH — At least 10 people were injured when fire broke out in a four-story residential building in Jeddah on Tuesday, according to the Civil Defense.

Col. Saeed Sarhan, spokesman for the Civil Defense in Makkah province, said rescue teams quickly evacuated the occupants of the building in Al-Rabwah district of north Jeddah using safety chairs and staircases.

Sarhan said smoke had enveloped the entire building but he did not specify the cause of the fire, which started on the third floor.

Sarhan said six people were treated on the spot by Red Crescent paramedics while four others were rushed to a nearby hospital.

The spokesman said an investigation was under way to determine the cause of the fire.
