Sudanese nanny testifies violations of Qatar regime

GENEVA — Sahar Abdel Baqi Al-Sheikh, a former Sudanese housekeeper and supervisor at the palace of Sheikh Sultan Bin Suhaim Al-Thani, testified the harrowing experiences and harassment meted out to her by the Doha regime.

Attending a press conference at the Swiss Press Club on Thursday, she recounted what she had been experienced of working at the palace of Sheikh Sultan in Qatar before her deportation.

Sahar said that she reached Qatar to work as a nanny at the palace of Sheikh Sultan and in the hope of earning a livelihood to support her five children back home. “I arrived in Qatar in 2013 to work at the palace of Sheikh Sultan where I was treated by the Sheikh’s family graciously and my job was taking care of the Sheikh’s children — Ayesha, Muhammad, Saheem and Muna. However, the Hamad regime found this as a great fault for which I had to face stringent punishment,” she said.

Sahar said that things were going on well and there were not any problems for her in the beginning until Sheikh Sultan appeared on television, talking about his political point of view. “Even though such things were nothing to do with the workers at his palace, the ordeal began from that day onwards,” she said.

Later, she received a phone call from Sheikh Sultan, who wanted to talk to his sons. Soon, she was surprised by a convoy of security vehicles storming the residence where she lived and they forced her to leave with them. Sahar said she was taken directly to the Hamad International Airport before being deported to Sudan.
