JEDDAH — The 70th Republic day was celebrated in all its solemnity, fervor and grandeur at the International Indian School Jeddah (IISJ) premises on Saturday to remember the golden heritage of our country and the success achieved 70 years ago.
Indian Consul General Md. Noor Rahman Sheikh, Dr. Nazneen Rahman Sheikh, Deputy Consul General, Consul Haj and School Observer Mohammed Shahid Alam, Dr. Shakila Shahid Alam, Member of Higher Board Abdul Ghafoor Danish, Fareeda Danish, dignitaries from the Indian community, parents, school officials, teachers and students attended.
The chief guest Sheikh unfurled the national flag, followed by the rendition of the national anthem. In a symbolic act of spreading the message of freedom and peace, the Consul General and Dr. Nazneen Rahman Sheikh released the pigeons.
This was followed by a spectacular and well synchronized march past by Boy Scouts, led by Fawaz Umar and Allan Babu (IX-XII), and Sultan Bin Abdul Rasheed (VI-VIII) and Girls Guides, led by Reem Binth Shanawas (IX-XII), a recipient of the prestigious Rajya Puraskar, and Iqra Irfan Khan (VI-VIII) to the pulsating tune of the band.
The parade by Bunnies, Cubs and Bulbuls was appreciated by the spectators with continuous applause as they walked down the marching track happily waving at the crowd.
The academic toppers of AISSCE and AISSE of IISJ who bagged positions as academic toppers in the Kingdom and in the Gulf Region were felicitated for their excellence. Mariam Hasan Bawa of Humanities Stream was felicitated for bagging the first position in the Kingdom followed by Hafsa Syed Munnawaruddin of Humanities; bagging the second position in the Kingdom in AISSCE 2017-2018. Ramssy Raoof was felicitated for achieving exceptional results in the Kingdom in AISSE 2017-2018.
The Consul General read out president’ message to the gathering, who were treated to various melodious patriotic numbers by girls of III-V GS and VI-VIII GS. Their “Aye mere pyare watan and Hind desh ke niwasi” was well received.
The tiny tots of I-II BS and III-V GS showed some intricate formation with their synchronized and coordinated movements in the drill display. The tiny tots of I & II BS exhibited their exemplary display skills by arranging themselves in different forms and shapes signifying patriotism and national integrity.
The dazzling stars of III-V GS displayed butterfly drill, which demonstrated their agility, flexibility and coordination, highlighting the festive aura of the occasion.
This was followed by a medley of folk dances presented by the young and exuberant students of VI-VIII BS who enthralled the audience with their lively and vibrant moves and steps. The celebrations came to an end with the exhilarating concluding act by the dance team of VI-VIII BS, signifying the unique strength of India in its diversity. — SG
