JEDDAH — The National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) in Makkah region has visited the twin babies who have been severely abused by their mother.

The executive director of the society, Saleh Al-Ghamdi, arrived at the Maternity and Children’s hospital in Jeddah to examine and follow up the case.

He noted that the babies are well taken of by representatives of the Protection Unit and are being examined by a medical team. Al-Ghamdi noted that the twins are stable now and he expressed his appreciation of the efforts made by concerned authorities.

A Saudi national volunteered to take care of the babies until their father is capable of taking them back since the father is in Yemen. The social protection unit is now preparing to hand the twins to the volunteer.

Earlier this week a video posted on YouTube went viral as it showed a mother abusing her two babies, hitting them hard and threatening to kill them. Both the Ministry of Labor and Social Development and Jeddah Police reacted to the incident immediately.

The spokesman of the Ministry of Labor and Social Development Khalid Aba Al-Khail noted that the case has been followed up and the babies were sent to hospital and are accompanied by officials from the Protection Unit at the ministry. The mother has also been transferred to concerned authorities.

The parents of the babies, both non-Saudis, have been having a number disputes and NSHR statement attributes the mother abusive acts to these disputes.
