RIYADH — Following the success of the first program, Bloomberg and the Misk Foundation are joining forces again for an intensive five-day financial journalism training program in Dubai for young Saudis. The initiative aims to advance financial education and journalism in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through training conducted by Matthew Winkler, editor-in-chief Emeritus of Bloomberg News, and more than 20 Bloomberg journalists and analysts. Misk is now accepting applications from top-performing male and female undergraduate, recently graduated and graduate students from Saudi Arabia.
The course will take place from Sept. 9-13, and will be based in Bloomberg’s newsroom in Dubai where students will learn the organization's brand of data-driven journalism firsthand in the news organizations' largest bureau in the Middle East.
The first program, held in January 2018, saw a total of 30 aspiring Saudi journalists take part — 22 women and 8 men — with majors ranging from journalism and marketing to finance.
This program follows the signing of an agreement between Bloomberg and the Misk Foundation in November 2016, which explores a number of joint initiatives. The collaboration sees Bloomberg develop and deliver cross-disciplinary education and training programs focused on business, economics, finance and journalism to enhance the skills and knowledge of young finance and media professionals in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
This extends Bloomberg’s global financial journalism training programs, which include programs such as the Bloomberg Media Initiative Africa, the Bloomberg - UNC Business Journalism Diversity Program in the US, and the Asian College of Journalism - Bloomberg Postgraduate Program in India.
Bloomberg and Misk also signed an agreement in March 2018 which will create financial training programs and finance labs at 30 Saudi Arabian universities, and equip 250 Saudi Arabian companies with market trainings, tools and resources.
Prince Muhammad Bbin Salman Bin Abdulaziz Foundation (the Misk Foundation) is a non-profit foundation established by Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman to discover, develop and empower Saudi youth to become active participants in the future economy.
Misk specifically focuses on four key areas: education, creative and digital media, technology, and culture and arts. Misk pursues this agenda both through its own programs, and through partnerships with local and global organizations.
