June 05, 2018

JEDDAH - Saudi Arabia strongly condemned on Tuesday the terrorist attack that targeted a gathering of religious scholars in Kabul, resulting in deaths and injuries of scores of people, an official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The source reiterated the Kingdom’s solidarity with Afghanistan against extremism and terrorism, offering condolences and sympathy to the bereaved families as well as to the government and people of Afghanistan, and wished speedy recovery for the injured.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) also denounced the suicide attack on Monday that targeted a gathering of more than 2,000 Islamic scholars from across the country.

OIC Secretary General Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen offered his condolences to the government and people of Afghanistan and wished speedy recovery to the injured.

“The Muslim Ummah has been deeply disappointed by the lack of progress and response from the Afghan opposition to the government's repeated appeals to unconditionally engage in peace negotiations,” he said while urging the concerned parties, Afghanistan's neighbors and the international community to continue exerting influence on the parties and redouble constructive efforts to help transform the current impasse in Afghanistan. -- SG/SPA
