JEDDAH — The Izhaar Urdu Talk Masters, a Toastmasters club from the Area 34 of Division H of District 79 of Saudi Arabia, held its 91st meeting with the theme being “Justice”. TM Abdul Sami, president of the club, welcomed all and was also the general evaluator for all the sessions.
TM Aslam Afghani gave a brief introduction to new members on how to present the first project — which is called ice-breaking. TM Mahtab Qadr was the grammarian and Aah counter of the evening. It was his responsibility to correct the mistakes of the speakers. TM Shoebuddin was timekeeper and Abdul Rasheed Osmani, the vote counter.
The meeting began with the new members TM Mohammed Atharuddin and TM Amrina Qaisar presenting their Icebreaking projects. Atharuddin was evaluated by TM Moinuddin, while Qaisar was evaluated by Afghani. TM Sadiq Hussain presented his second project on “The Importance of a Teacher”.
He said mother is the first teacher of any person. One’s teacher can be of any nationality, religion, race, caste etc. but one can learn from all. According to him an Egyptian teacher taught him swimming. He said, there’s no end to learning. One learns from the day he’s born till the day he leaves this world. He added one learns from his daily experiences too. He was evaluated by TM Syed Nasir Khursheed.
Khursheed presented his “Fact finding report” from the advance project 5 by delivering an eye opening lecture on “Triple Talaq” — currently a very hot topic in India. He presented many interesting and basic points about the Talaq system in Islam. He was evaluated by TM Mohammed Abdul Sami.
In the table topics session, Moinuddin, hosted the first part of the session. Afghani spoke on “Why one cannot play with the Zakat system as it is done with Triple Talaq?”, Sadiq Hussain spoke on “Why Time is important?”, Mohammed Abdul Sami spoke on “The importance of earning Halal and it’s aspects?”, TM Mirza Qudrat Nawaz Baig spoke on “Why Interest is getting very common among people nowadays?” TM Abdul Rasheed Osmani spoke on “What should one do to maintain a happy and peaceful life?”
The second part of the session was hosted by Osmani where he invited Qadr and asked him the meaning of a famous Urdu couplet “Falak Ko Zid Hai Bijliyaan Giraane Ki, Humein bhi Zid Hai Wahin Aashiyaan Banane Ki”. Shoebuddin spoke on “What to do to refresh our mind”?
In the poetic session Qadr and Qaisar recited their poetry, Hussian recited a couplet of his sister’s poetry. Later TM Abdul Rahman M. Baig, Atharuddin and Shoebuddin recited few couplets on the theme of the evening.
The couplet of Qadr was applauded and well received by the attendees where he mentioned today’s generation who comment on Urdu poetry in English or other languages while etiquette dictated that the comment too must be in Urdu.

Qaisar, who attended the Urdu Toastmasters club for the second time, said, “I am delighted to be a part of this group, it is very motivating and energetic The experience so far is so good and I’m overwhelmed to be a part of this toastmaster club. Initially, I was a bit reluctant but now I wish to sail with everyone and request more females to come forward and be a part of this Izhaar Urdu Toastmasters club.
Hussain, who too attended the Urdu Toastmasters club for the second time, said, “It was nice to see a gathering of Urdu poetry lovers who are also the members of the Urdu Toastmasters club which reflects love of the community toward Urdu. We need to preserve the language’s grace by speaking in the original dialect. He promised to bring in more members. I was fond of Urdu poetry since childhood and this is the best platform.”
Abdul Sami, president, Izhaar Urdu Talk Masters, congratulated the winners and said that number of members is growing and the club is gaining popularity. He added, “For the first time Izhar Urdu Talkmaster Club members will be participating in the International and Area Contest for prepared speech, table topic session, evaluation and humorous sessions, during mid-February and March.”
Osmani announced the winner. Best prepared speech session award was given to TM Qaisar, while best speaker for spontaneous table topic session award was given to TM Afghani and the best speech evaluator award was given to TM Khursheed. Abdul Sami proposed the vote of thanks.
