DO you think you are lucky or unlucky? Some people usually think they are lucky if they get a pay rise or a promotion that they never anticipated. There are many people who think they are unlucky and they can be found in every society around the world. These people regard themselves as losers as a result of overpowering pessimistic feelings inside them.
Many people believe that luck plays an important role in their lives. They believe that luck is a result of hard work and the ability to anticipate the future from a practical perspective, based on clear objectives.
Dr. Taha Hussain, the late Egyptian writer and intellectual, lost his eyesight when he was six because of ignorance and poverty. He grew up in an environment in which people were superstitious. Nevertheless, Hussain did not lose hope. Rather, he clung to life and fought hard to become lucky. He became the father of Arabic literature and was later appointed Egypt’s Minister of Education.
Helen Keller, who passed away in 1968, became blind, deaf and mute shortly after birth. Nevertheless, through her strong will, determination and perseverance, she became the first blind and deaf writer and lecturer in the United States. She even earned a bachelor’s degree.
Michael Milton, an Australian skier, cyclist, trekker and triathlete, lost his leg to cancer when he was around nine. He did not give up and lose hope, nor did he describe himself as unlucky. He fought hard, worked hard and learned how to ski. He took part in several Paralympics games. By the time he was 14, he had won 10 Paralympian medals.
Albert Einstein said many times that chance and luck helped him come up with his famous theories. He never thought that his theories would draw so much attention. He believed that the secret to his genius mind was his ability to maintain the spirit of childhood. The funny spirit he had as a child helped him achieve many things in life.
We should not wait for luck to save us from failure nor should we rely on others. We should work harder to achieve our goals.
