More than 900 kg of meat confiscated in Makkah

MAKKAH — Al-Shawkiyyah branch municipality in Makkah has confiscated about 900 kg of meat of animals, which were illegally slaughtered outside the slaughterhouse.

A spokesman of the municipality said the meat was getting spoilt so it was confiscated and destroyed before it was used by any pilgrim or resident.

Inspectors of the municipality, in a random probe, also busted a restaurant and confiscated about 70 kg of animal and chicken meat in addition to a large quantity of expired foodstuffs.

He said a number of illegal workers in the restaurant and the slaughterhouse were apprehended and handed over to the passport department.

The inspectors also raided the fruit and vegetable market where they confiscated about 300 cartons containing contaminated fruit and vegetables.
