JEDDAH — The Haramain Express Train arrived at Jeddah station from King Abdullah Economic City Station in Rabigh on Tuesday for the first time in a test drive.
Public Transportation Commission President and Acting Head of Saudi Railways Organization Rimaih Al-Rimaih said the trip from King Abdullah Economic City in Rabigh to Jeddah was part of the Haramain Express Train Project’s test drive plan.
“I would like to thank the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Crown Prince for supporting the project. I would also like to thank the Emir of Makkah, the Emir of Madinah and the security and service authorities. The support and aid of these various government entities is what made the project a success,” said Al-Rimaih.
He also said the Saudi Railways Organization is working on fulfilling the Vision 2030.
“The train connects Makkah with Madinah passing through Jeddah, King Abdulaziz Airport and King Abdullah Economic City in Rabigh. The project is progressing faster than planned and is expected to be completed by the end of 2017,” said Al-Rimaih.
He also thanked the Public Investments Fund for funding the project. There is another test drive scheduled after three months for the train.
