Wife confesses to starting fire that killed man

Police have arrested the wife of a man who died in an arson attack in a Taif neighborhood two months ago.

TAIF — Police have arrested the wife of a man who died in an arson attack in a Taif neighborhood two months ago.



Al-Hawiyah police investigated the fire at Al-Dahas area that claimed the victim, who died from smoke inhalation and burns.



Lt. Saleem Al-Ribai’e, spokesman for Taif police, said the victim in his 50s was taken to hospital where he succumbed to injuries.



Investigation teams who attended the scene had found evidence confirming the fire was deliberate.



The woman, who was said to be in shock at the time, was not detained, but Al-Hawiyah police continued its investigations and questioned her two children.



They said their mother had bought a lock one day before the fire from a local store. In addition, traces of kerosene were found in the victim’s bedroom.



Police said the woman admitted she used a piece of cloth to set fire to her husband’s bedroom before she locked it. She said she did this because she had been quarreling with her husband for months.



The woman is currently in police custody while her case is referred to the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution.
