A fascinating number of young fashion lovers and designers from the region are rapidly becoming entrepreneurs and cultivating a new mainstream fashion culture. One of them is Hind Adib. The Iraqi-Canadian fashionista decided to pursue her dreams and transform her visions into reality by launching her brand in the UAE.

“I've always enjoyed playing dress up as a kid and as I grew older I realized that I really enjoy creating my own clothes. As I slowly started and saw how my designs made people smile, I decided to pursue my journey in launching my own brand,” Adib told Saudi Gazette.

Influenced by streetwear fashion in an urban setting, Adib’s collection includes denim jackets with powerful messages, punch lines and the ‘X’ graphics.

“The first collection consists of vintage denim jackets that have been screen printed with powerful messages. What inspired me to design these prints are my own experiences and other people's stories. The X represents empowerment, self-love and independence. The world around us is constantly trying to tell us who we should be and how we should live, so the X is a symbol of crossing off anyone who's ever made us feel like we're not good enough. Other prints from the collection represent women empowerment with fighting the stereotypes the world has created for us. 'Fight Like A Girl' and 'I've Got My Own Back',” she said.

Talking about the brand, she said it is extremely personal and inspired by music, interactions and experiences she has had. “I spend a lot of time researching and figuring out how my brand can make people relate to their own stories. It was a long and tough journey of sleepless nights and busy days but it's worth every second. The goal for my brand is to inspire people and make them feel empowered. I love seeing people smile and feel good seeing and wearing my designs. That is the ultimate happiness and I will continue to pursue that,” she added.

Adib reported that the brand has been noticed internationally and she plans to take it beyond just the Middle East.  “I'm extremely happy that my jackets have already made their way to London, Australia, USA, Jordan, Saudi, and Jamaica. And I definitely do plan on expanding even further. The brand's future holds a lot of new adventures and collections that continue to tell stories and hopefully inspire others. I dream of one day opening a few stores around Dubai and other cities like London and New York.”

Discussing her personal experience in the fashion industry, she said she has been lucky so far because of the team she works with.

“I've been lucky enough to meet some of the most genuine people while working in the fashion industry. It is a crazy industry to be in, but if you have an awesome team and supportive friends, you are good for life. I've learned that there is always something new to learn and once you feel comfortable where you are, that's when you will have to get out of your comfort zone and do something out of the ordinary.”

Adib’s 'Top 3 pieces' from her collection are the ''Like A Girl'' Jacket, the 'X' Jacket and the ''Got My Own Back'' Jacket.
