All schools, colleges in Makkah governorate to remain closed Thursday

JEDDAH - All schools in Jeddah, Rabigh, Khulais and all those falling under Makkah governorate will remain closed for the second consecutive day on Thursday due to bad weather, according to an announcement by the Department of Education and Makkah governorate.

“Classes at all government, private and international schools will be suspended on Thursday,” the department said in a statement adding that the decision was taken for the safety of students following a forecast from the General Authority of Meteorology and Environmental Protection and the concerned authorities in view of inclement weather conditions.

King Abdulaziz University (KAU), Jeddah University and Umm Al-Qura University will also remain closed on Thursday. Classes at the headquarters of the universities in Jeddah and branches and faculties of KAU in Rabigh and branches of Jeddah University in Jeddah, Rabigh and Khulais will be suspended on Thursday, the Saudi Press Agency reported quoting the university sources.

Meanwhile, the sandstorm affected normal life in Jeddah and several other coastal regions of Makkah province for the second day on Wednesday. The region witnessed heavy sandstorm that lashed at a speed of 55 km per hour. The visibility was below one kilometer.

The Health Department in Jeddah said that a total of 422 people approached hospitals and primary health centers in the governorate due to weather-related disorders.
