JEDDAH — The mother of the teen, who was seen in a viral video attacking a police officer at the Jeddah Corniche in Al-Hamra District recently, has apologized to the police and society for his behavior.

Talking to Al-Madina newspaper, the mother also claimed that her son, Seddiq, was influenced by the bad company he kept. The attack on the police officer sparked a media outrage. The entire incident was recorded by a Saudi woman, who posted the video on social media.

The mother of 17-year-old Seddiq talked with a deep sense of sorrow on her son’s misbehavior. “He is a minor. He committed an unforgivable mistake.
Due to his young age he couldn’t assess the fallout of his reckless behavior,” she said.  She added that her son is her only child.  She was divorced 15 years ago. She raised him on her own until he reached 11 years and then Seddiq moved to his father.

Seddiq is in touch with her. She stated that he is regretting his assault committed because of his “recklessness”.

“I would like to pass three messages. The first is my apology to the assaulted police officer. I know that my son’s fault can’t by forgiven by an apology. We all appreciate you because you are a nice human being, and second because you protect our country, and our properties. I wish you can accept our apology because the only excuse we have for him is his age,” the mother said.

She said: “The second message is for our society, I would like to say that the situation my son in can happen with any other minor who passed through his conditions, and not aware of the consequences. Don’t be harsh in judging him. Thirdly, I address policemen, you are our protectors, our pride, and as a mother I would like to apologize to each and every member of the police force.” She ended up by crying and saying she has not seen Seddiq since the incident. “People in social media are attacking him, but they don’t know that I tried hard to raise him in a good manner,” she added.
