JEDDAH - “Safar,” which means travel in Arabic, is the theme this year for the 4th edition of the 21,39 art event, a non-profit initiative focused on Jeddah’s art and gallery scene. The event starts today and runs until May and is organized by the Saudi Art Council (SAC). The opening program of the event which includes a series of gallery openings and panel discussions will be held until Feb. 4.

Today, two art exhibitions will be opened, which are ‘Safar’ exhibition that is located at Gold Moor and the Solo Exhibition by artist Awdh Al-Zahrani titled “Sisters of Baghdad” at Hafez Gallery. On Thursday, Safar Forum will be held at Gold Moor Mall, opening of ‘Tadafuq’ group exhibition in Beydoun building and Tasami exhibition in Serafi Mega Mall..

The theme of the event revolves around the idea of exploring and discovering the concept of traveling and how the action of traveling helps in the growth and learning process. This year 21,39 will focus on pieces of art that speak about exploration by which things are revealed to the traveler. This year’s theme will showcase the works of around 45 artists.

Curators of the event are Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath of Art Reoriented. The event features several curated cultural events that will take place throughout Jeddah at local galleries.
