VANCOUVER — Marian Hossa scored late in overtime, capping a rally to overcome a three-goal, third-period deficit that gave the Chicago Blackhawks a 4-3 victory over the Vancouver Canucks Saturday night.
Ryan Hartman tied the game with 4:14 left in regulation after Artemi Panarin and Vinnie Hinostroza scored earlier in the third. The 22-year-old Hinostroza got his first NHL points with a goal and two assists.
Hossa then beat Jacob Markstrom low blocker side 4:04 into OT for his 11th goal of the season.
Loui Eriksson, Bo Horvat and Brandon Sutter scored for Vancouver, which got 28 stops from Markstrom.
Chicago captain Jonathan Toews appeared to win it 31 seconds into OT, but the play entering the zone was ruled offside after a video review.
An end-to-end extra period continued. Chicago goalie Scott Darling stopped one chance by Vancouver’s Markus Granlund, and then Canucks star Henrik Sedin sent a shot off the post.
The Blackhawks’ Patrick Kane was stopped on a breakaway before Darling came up with huge stops on Eriksson and Sutter, as well.
Oilers 5, Stars 2: Connor McDavid registered his first career NHL hat trick to lead the Edmonton Oilers to a 5-2 victory over the Dallas Stars on Saturday.
McDavid scored his first goals in 11 games as Edmonton snapped a five-game losing streak.
McDavid opened the scoring at 2:57 of the first period with the type of goal that usually ends a drought. He was trying to make a centering pass on the play when it went off Stars defenseman John Klingberg’s stick and past goalender Kari Lehtonen.
Sabres 2, Penguins 1 (SO): Cal O’Reilly scored in a shootout and Buffalo ended a nine-game losing streak -- and a 15-game slide with Sidney Crosby in the lineup -- against Pittsburgh.
The last time the Sabres defeated the Penguins with Crosby was Dec. 29, 2009. The Sabres have undergone an ownership change, shuffled the front office twice and changed coaches three times since.
Lightning 3, Flyers 0: Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 32 shots for his second straight shutout as Tampa Bay received goals from Tyler Johnson, Ondrej Palat and Jonathan Drouin to defeat Philadelphia.
The Lighting won their fourth straight game while allowing only four goals in that span. Forced to play without captain Steven Stamkos (right knee surgery) for the next four months, Tampa Bay also learned before the game that Brian Boyle was out with an upper-body injury.
Canadiens 2, Maple Leafs 1: Shea Weber and Alex Radulov each had two assists as Montreal snapped a three-game slide with its 12th consecutive victory over Toronto.
Carey Price made 31 saves for the Canadiens while Frederik Anderson stopped 27 shots for the Maple Leafs, which had won two straight games by a combined 12-3.
Bruins 4, Jets 1: Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron, Tim Schaller and Matt Beleskey scored as Boston shut down Winnipeg.
The Bruins’ defense made life easy for goaltender Tuukka Rask, who made 11 saves as the Jets needed 50 minutes to reach double digits on the shot count. Winnipeg goaltender Michael Hutchinson stopped 34 of 38 Boston shots.
Panthers 4, Senators 1: Florida received outstanding goaltending from Roberto Luongo and a boost from their previously slumping first line to defeat Ottawa.
Jaromir Jagr, Jussi Jokinen, Jonathan Marchessault and center Derek MacKenzie scored for the Panthers. Top-line center Aleksander Barkov chipped in with two assists.
Kings 4, Devils 2: Tanner Pearson scored the key go-ahead goal and Peter Budaj made 21 saves as Los Angeles defeated New Jersey.
