JEDDAH — Sixty-one road projects completed in recent years in Jeddah have failed to reduce the traffic congestion in the city during rush hours, according to motorists.

Many drivers in Jeddah confirmed that some of the new projects in the province have failed to reduce traffic jams.

Hussein Al-Subyani said people were anticipating the opening of dozens of projects to relieve crowded areas in Jeddah that saw major traffic density. Despite the opening of these projects, the congested streets remained.

“I think the traffic situation will remain a problem until the completion of the public transportation system in Jeddah, which includes a metro. Only then will traffic be improved,” Al-Subyani said.

Abdullah Al-Anzi said driving in the streets of Jeddah has become unbearable as they remain congested throughout the day.

“The daily commute to my work consumes a lot of my time. I used to drive to work in 15 minutes, and now the least amount of time required is an hour, if not more,” he said.
