DAMMAM — Mayor of Tarout survived 17 bullets shot by unknown assaulters here on Sunday and courageously drove himself to the hospital.

Mayor of Tarout Island in Qatif Governorate Abdulhalim Al-Kaidar said he was on his way to visit a neighbor. “Four people came to me in their cars and demanded I step out. They were swearing at me and at the country. I refused to get out of the car and locked myself in. They began to shoot at me. I was hit in the chest and began to bleed,” said Al-Kaidar.

He added he drove past the assaulters to a nearby medical center.

“They were chasing me in two cars. I got to the medical center and they transported me to the hospital after giving me first aid. As a mayor, I receive a lot of threats from people who loathe the country. I have had my car and house set on fire before and have received numerous death threats,” said Al-Kaidar.

He also said he does not know any of the assaulters.

“The attack was an act of terrorism and I trust the authorities to track down the attackers and arrest them for their heinous crimes,” said Al-Kaidar.

Prince Saud Bin Naif, emir of the Eastern Province, visited him at the hospital.
