RIYADH – The General Directorate of Traffic, in cooperation with Ilm Company, has activated an SMS service under which owners of vehicles will get text messages in case their vehicles are involved in accidents.
The measure follows a request from the transport committee at the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the wake of a surge in complaints about registration of accident cases with insurance companies without the knowledge of vehicle owners.
Many motor insurance companies use this as a pretext to make a huge hike in the insurance premium, the Saudi Press Agency reported. Investors in the transport sector have the worst victims of the situation.
Saud Al-Nofaie, chairman of the committee, said the new facility would help owners of vehicles, both individuals and companies, to make necessary follow-up in case of accidents.
