RIYADH — Alwaleed Philanthropies (AP), chaired by Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal, on Monday began receiving applications for its ambitious housing project in Egypt. This entails the construction and distribution of 10,000 housing units to Egyptian families over the next 10 years.

As part of the project, an estimated 1,000 housing units will be constructed every year and distributed to eligible beneficiaries in Egypt.
Alwaleed Philanthropies will accept applications through their website and the final beneficiaries will be selected according to eligibility criteria set by the foundation. This criteria is available on the foundation’s website www.alwaleedphilanthropies.org.

Carried out in partnership with the Misr El Kheir Foundation, this project targets areas with the highest needs in every Egyptian governorate except for Cairo, North Sena and South Sena. Alwaleed Philanthropies is also partnering with the ministries of housing, utilities, urban communities, local development and social welfare in Egypt to bring this historic project to life.

Falling under Alwaleed Philanthropies’ work in “Developing Communities”, the housing project will improve living conditions and provide adequate shelter for those who need it most. Additionally, the project will see the development and rehabilitation of roads and utilities, including water and electricity, in these target areas.

Commenting on the occasion, Nauf AlRawaf, executive manager of Global Initiatives at Alwaleed Philanthropies, said: “This is an essential component of human dignity, health and security. By providing this need, we can help families and communities across Egypt thrive, for this generation and others to come.”

As part of its commitment to developing communities and providing adequate shelter, Alwaleed Philanthropies has undertaken several housing projects globally since its establishment. In collaboration with its partners on the ground, the foundation supported the reconstruction of 1,000 housing units in Liberia, 40 housing units in Sudan, and building 80 housing units in Sri Lanka. AP also supported charitable housing projects in Zimbabwe, along with the construction of housing units in each of the following countries: Burkina Faso, Mali, Senegal, Benin, Ghana, and Mauritania.

For over 35 years, Alwaleed Philanthropies has supported and initiated projects in over 120 countries regardless of gender, race, or religion. It has collaborated with a range of philanthropic, government, and educational organizations to combat poverty, empower women and youth, develop communities and provide disaster relief and create cultural understanding through education.
