It’s all window-shopping at consumer products expo

JEDDAH — While the annual exhibition of Jeddah’s National Consumer Industries sees huge numbers of visitors, some exhibitors are saying few visitors make purchases.

The exhibition, organized by the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI), is expected to see 65,000 visitors until June 4, with 66 exhibitors, including companies, factories and individuals, participating.

Syrian thobe trader Husam Ahmed said, “This is not my first year to participate and not many people are buying from us unlike the previous years. I do not know what is the reason behind such behavior, maybe the exams.”

Egyptian perfumes vendor Ahmed Sameer explained that he has been part of the exhibition for seven years and he believes that the rate of sales this year is very low, especially on the first day. The exhibition started on May 24.

Some of the exhibitors have a different selling experience. They said many visitors were buying from them and they expect to earn more profits than previous years.

“On the first day almost we did not sell any thobe, but today I have sold many pieces, thank God. I am very optimistic of this season,” Saudi exhibitor Salah said on the second day of the fair.

One visitor, Sarah Khalid, said this year the quality of displayed products, particularly the thobes, were better.

The exhibition covers a variety of products, such as clothes, perfumes, make-up, accessories and traditional gifts.

Egyptian and Indian dresses for women of all ages are also available.
