DAMMAM — Fire ripped through a warehouse area in Al-Khalidah Al-Oulah district of Dammam on Saturday. Eastern Province Civil Defense Col. Mansour Al-Dowsary said strong wind fanned the fire, spreading it quickly from one warehouse to six others nearby. The Civil Defense managed to extinguish the fire that spread over an area of 4,200 sq. meters. One firefighter was injured in the process. He received treatment and has fully recovered from the injury, which was not serious. The Civil Defense is still investigating the cause of the fire.

Drug smuggler dies
due to dehydration

ARAR — Border Guards seized 187,275 amphetamine pills from two smugglers who sneaked into the Kingdom undetected across the northern border on Tuesday. Border Guard spokesman in the Northern Border Province Col. Saher Al-Harbi said two men approached the border crossing at Rafha from Iraq with a package of unknown substances and managed to pass through the checkpoint undetected. However, the guards issued an order to track down and arrest them. After a thorough search, the guards found one of the smugglers dead in a desert area on Wednesday. The other was found in a critical state due to dehydration. Both were taken to hospital. The guards found 187,275 amphetamine pills in the men's possession.

Elderly woman dies,
7 hurt in house fire

JUBAIL — An elderly woman died and seven other members of her family were injured when a residential building caught fire in Jubail on Saturday. Eastern Province Civil Defense spokesman Col. Mansour Al-Dowsary said the fire started on the ground floor of a two-story building. The Civil Defense extinguished the fire. Rescue workers found an elderly woman dead in one of the rooms. Seven of her family members suffered from smoke inhalation and were transported to hospital. The Civil Defense has launched an investigation into the incident.

Asian expat falls off
high mountain, dies


RIYADH — An Asian expatriate died after falling off a high mountain in Al-Namas governorate. The man was reported missing in the mountains and the Civil Defense had been searching for him when his body was found. The Civil Defense took the body to the morgue.
