Heavy rain, sandstorm to hit again from tomorrow

JEDDAH – The Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME) has warned of a repeat of heavy sandstorm and rain in many parts of the Kingdom from Thursday.

There is a possibility of heavy rain on Friday in Makkah, Riyadh, Al-Baha and Asir regions and that may cause flashfloods in these regions, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

Normal life was affected on Saturday and Sunday as heavy sandstorm engulfed many parts of the Kingdom. Due to heavy sandstorm, flights were disrupted, schools had suspended classes midway, and hospitals were put on alert in Jeddah on Sunday.

According to the new PME forecast, there is a possibility of heavy sandstorm accompanied by rain in the central, eastern and western parts of the Kingdom, including Riyadh, Makkah, Al-Baha, Asir, Jazan, Najran, and Eastern Province on Thursday.

Heavy rain is expected in Taif, Turba, and Raniyya in Makkah region, as well as in Baljurshi, Mikhwa and Aqeeq in Al-Baha region, Bisha, Al-Namas, and Mahayil Asir in Asir region, and Wadi Dawasser, Al-Aflaj, Houta Bani Tameem, Afeef and Quwaieya in Riyadh region. PME forecasts heavy rain may hit Asir, Jazan, Al-Baha, Najran, parts of Riyadh, and the Eastern Province from Saturday to Monday. PME warned all the people in the Kingdom to take utmost caution against the dangers of inclement weather over the coming days.
