CAIRO — Egypt’s government has held a memorial prayer service to remember Italian student Giulio Regeni who died under mysterious circumstance in Cairo in January this year.

Regeni, a 28-year-old doctoral student living in Cairo, mysteriously disappeared in Cairo in late January just days before his body was found by the side of a highway.

Egyptian and Italian authorities are still carrying out their investigation into the death of Regeni, who friends described as the most kind hearted man they had ever met.

The memorial pray was held at Saint Joseph church in downtown Cairo, and was attended by the Egyptian Minister of Tourism, Hisham Zaazou, and other public figures.

Zaazou told the media that the Egyptian people hadn’t accepted Regeni’s murder, and that the crime had not affected the country’s tolerance.

He also called the Regeni’s death and apparent murder an inhumane act, and said that the Egyptian people sent their condolences to Regeni’s family, friends and the Italian people.

He added that whoever carried out the murder would face punishment soon as the Egyptian authorities were working together with their Italian counterparts on the case.

Zaazou told the Italian news agency, Nova, that the Egyptian government would initiative this month a camping in Italy in order to attract Italian tourists back to Egypt. After the murder of Regeni, the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, met with his Italian counterpart, Paolo Gentiloni, in Geneva, to discuss the case and agreed to work together.
