RIYADH — It’s now easier for citizens and expatriates to report crime thanks to an app launched Friday by the Public Security Department.

The mobile app called “Kulluna Amn” (We are all security) enables citizens and expatriates to participate in maintaing security, said Public Security Director Lt. Gen. Othman Al-Muhrij.

“Through the app citizens and residents will be able to report crimes immediately. The report will reach 39 centers dispersed in the Kingdom,” he said.

The identities of those reporting crime will be kept confidential, said Lt. Gen. Al-Muhrij.

He said the app brings to reality what the late Prince Naif used to say that the “citizen is the first security man.”

Lt. Gen. Al-Muhri said that the app is not only connected to the police but to all security forces including the Traffic Department in case of road accidents and other directorates and departments as well.

The app has a GPS system that records the location from where an incident of crime or accident has been reported. It also enables users to attach photos, recordings and videos with their reports. It has an embedded map with indications and directions to the nearest police station.

Any citizen or expatriate can download the “Kulluna Amn” app through iOS, Android, or Windows. The user must register by entering his identity card and mobile telephone number. Then a password is sent to be used only once. The user must verify the password to complete the registration process. The data of the citizen or expatriate will be saved in a secure database. The data can be used later in order to use all privileges of the application like reporting incidents or receiving notices and alerts.

Among the advantages of this app is that its data can be used in future in the ministry’s analysis systems to detect criminal patterns and counter them.
