Sudanese father accepts blood money, spares Chadian from execution

MAKKAH — Thanks to the intercession of Makkah Emir and Adviser to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, who is also chairman of the board of directors of the Reconciliation Committee, the father of a Sudanese national agreed to drop his case against the Chadian who caused his son’s death during an altercation 15 years ago and accept blood money instead.

The Reconciliation Committee in Makkah emirate witnessed a flurry of activity on Tuesday during procedures for dropping the case against Al-Ghali Bashir Al-Ghali for killing Muhammad Al-Numeirah.

The father of the victim, Abdullah Al-Numeirah, received SR300,000 in blood money to spare the Chadian from execution.

After an agreement was reached between the two sides, the case file was referred to the president of the General Court in Jeddah to complete the procedures for the release of the Chadian from prison.

The Reconciliation Committee had facilitated the journey of the victim’s father from Al-Duweim, 400 km north of the Sudanese capital Khartoum, to Makkah to complete the procedures.

A Saudi prisoner, who came to know about the plight of the Chadian in jail, donated SR50,000 as his contribution toward the blood money. However, a Saudi businessman donated the entire amount of the blood money.

Dr. Nasser Misfir Al-Qurashi Al-Zahrani, executive chairman of the Reconciliation Committee, said this was a blessed moment and was the result of the big support the committee received from Prince Khaled, who is according its work a lot of personal attention.

Since its inception, the committee has so far secured pardon for 316 prisoners on death row in Makkah province alone.
