JEDDAH — Hundreds of young people gathered to see a showcase of modified and classic cars at New Town center on Jeddah's Tahlia Street this week.

The Youth Festival, part of the Haya Shopping Festival 2016 organized by 1&21 company for events, was inaugurated on Tuesday by Deputy Secretary General of Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) Hassan Ibrahim Dahlan.

Modified cars of various leading brands, with some models dating back to the 1950s, were showcased at the event.

In order to make the event a unique and grand success, more than 40 modified cars were displayed in New Town parking lot.

Hundreds of spectators lined both sides of the New Town Center, trying to catch a glimpse of a whole range of cars that they would rarely see on street on an ordinary day.

During the opening ceremony, proud owners of the cars showcased the advantages of their cars to the guest of honor, Dahlan, and other guests.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Dahlan said the show was an important addition to the activities of Haya Jeddah Shopping Festival 2016.

“The aim of this youth festival is to guide the youth energy and skill in a systematic way. It gives young people an opportunity to highlight and develop their creative talents and enhance their knowledge through such activities. It is an opportunity to strengthen social relationships between the youth and other members of society,” he said.

He also pointed out that Haya Jeddah Shopping Festival is consistent with strategic goals that include development of tourism in Jeddah economically, culturally as well as for recreational purposes.

Waleed Issam Alfi, head of the organizing committee, noted in his speech that the youth festival provides an opportunity for young people to participate and showcase their talent and their passion for cars, which in turn help increase tourism activities by encouraging young talents to become more professional.
