Imran Khan and Atif Aslam were joined by Wasim Akram, Rahet Fateh Ali Khan and many other influential Pakistani figures to raise funds via a telethon broadcasted live on ARY Digital.  Initiated by Imran Khan, the telethon helped raise Rs 86 crores for the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital (SKMH) in Peshawar. Donors called in from Australia, Dubai, Afghanistan, Pakistan and different parts of the world during the three-hour live broadcast. Facebook and Twitter users applauded the intiative and helped their favorite celebrities to exceed the set target of Rs 80 crores for SKMH in Peshawar.

Many callers were grateful for and spoke about their personal experiences at the hospital while appreciating SKMH as an ideal and trustworthy entity.

Aslam, a philanthropist by nature, said his personal experience at SKMH while dealing with patients, helped him decide to be a part of the initiative. “I couldn’t find a flaw in the system at any point at SKMH. From the parking lot to the check in counter. It was all in order. Shaukat Khanum Peshawar is one of the greatest achievements of recent times,” he said. Aslam admitted there is more to life than stardom and it all comes down to serving humanity and giving back.

“I consider myself blessed to be a part of a legacy that will go on to save the lives of thousands of poor cancer patients in the years to come. It’s not what you create for yourself, it’s what you leave behind for others that defines your success,” he told his fans on Facebook and urged them donate to the cause, using his gift to help others. Akram lauded Khan’s efforts and leadership skills emphasising on his ability to win. Concluding the telethon, Khan thanked Pakistanis all over the world for proving they are united in a cause that is beneficial to Pakistan.

He promised to add a donation by selling one of his personal plots. Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre was initiated by Khan and funded by donations he brought in, to be able to provide comprehensive care free of cost to thousands of Pakistani cancer patients. The first state-of-the-art hospital is located in Lahore, and after Peshawar, Khan confirmed Karachi will be the next destination for SKMH.

You can sponsor a patient, or donate funds to help cancer patients from wherever you are.
