JEDDAH — Al Falah International School-DPS Jeddah hosted a science exhibition —“DPS – Science Expo 2015” — at its school premises here, with budding scientists exhibiting a variety of enthralling still and working models, displaying a commendable fusion of creativity and knowledge.

An array of colorful and spectacular models and charts on the themes of electrical and electronics, modern science and technology, mechanics, magnetism, robotics, optics, health and nutrition, types of houses, industries, health and environment etc. adorned the school campus.

Chief Guest Ms. Lathifa Mubarak, wife of the Consul General B. S. Mubarak, inaugurated the exhibition. Ms. Muslima Nadwi, the guest of honor, the Academic Director Ms. Humaira Naseem and Ms. Faiza, principal accompanied Ms. Mubarak.

Students splendidly displayed “recycling of waste, biogas plant, rain water harvesting, impact of pollutions” among others. Enthusiasm reflected clearly upon all their work particularly in the magical experiments of chemistry, sources of water and energy sources, power stations. Students also exhibited different still models of biology, planetarium apart from transport and communication.

The displays that fascinated the visitors most and kept them spellbound were the DPS planetarium, automatic railway gate, a huge hovercraft, photographic representation of the 40 weeks of gestation and an amazing underwater world with a live mermaid and fish. All the projects won acclamation of the parents and visitors.

School Chairman Zia Al Nadwi observed all exhibits and applauded the enormous effort put in by the students. He credited the persistent efforts of the department of science, teachers and students in conducting such a memorable event. The academic director appreciated the ingenuity of the participants and added, “The Expo has enabled the ignited young minds to bring out their best. The DPS-Science Exhibition is a landmark in the annals of our school history.”

Afeef Mahmoud, a student of grade 10 and an exhibitor of ‘Automatic Railway Gate’ project, said, “This is our first try to display our work and it takes around two weeks to complete the whole project through which we want to save human lives by avoiding accidents. ‘Automatic Railway Gate’ whole depends on magnetic sensor.”

Mohd Faizan, same group member and exhibitor of ‘Automatic Railway Gate’ project, said, “The main aim of our project is to actually save lives because most of the railway gates are controlled by men and because of negligence day by day accidents increases, and to control that we can use these gates that has a magnetic sensor, which will control the gate”.

Syed Hameeduddin Asif, parent of an exhibitor Syed Akbaruddin student of grade 5 who displayed model of “Oil Refinery” in which he showcased the different steps of storing crude oil, it’s cleaning and loading methods, said, “I think “DPS – Science Expo 2015”is a great opportunity for my son to show his talent and creativity. My son worked hard for it and won great encouragement and applause.”

“We are very thankful to school authority and teachers for conducting this exhibition, it really motivates kids to do something unique and creatively,” he added.
