DAMMAM — Urdu Toastmasters Club, Dammam has organized a special 100th session of the club at Mohawais Compound in Al Khobar.

The function was attended by several literary figures of the Eastern Province including famous writer and poet, Sajjad Saleem, internationally known fiction writer, Farhat Parween, poetess Ghazala Kaamran. The event was graced by several prominent personalities like Mohammed Ansari, Mohammed Yousuf and Shahryar Bhopali.

In the first session,Ó three senior members of the club, Mohammed Anasuddin, Sardar Sharieff and Shiraz Mahdi Zia mesmerized the audience with their eloquence and oratory skills.

The advanced project speeches were well evaluated by other senior members of the club, Dr. Shaikh Shakil Anjum, Mohammed Asgharuddin and Syed Mansour Shah. Naseem Shahri evaluated the usage of Urdu language by the speakers.

The session was followed by a short Urdu poetry session. Renowned poets from the Eastern Province, Sohail Saaqib, Waseem Mazhar, Qudsia Laali and Safi Hyder Jannaty regaled the audience with their nazm and ghazals.

The event was ably anchored by Mohammed Asif Akhter, a member of the club who kept the audience enthralled with his humor and impromptu style.

Another highlight of the function was heart touching musical renditions by renowned classical ghazal singer, Dr. Abdulghani of Al-Ahsa, who presented ghazals of prominent poets in his own musical compositions and that included a ghazal by popular poet of the region, Shiraz Mahdi Zia.

In his address, the president of the club, Ziya ur Rahman Siddiqui, stressed on the need to safeguard the heritage of Urdu language and encourage children to learn and perfect the language. He encouraged the audience to become part of the well-organized Urdu Toastmasters Club.

Urdu Toastmasters Club was formed three years ago for providing a platform to the Urdu speaking communities in Dammam and Al-Khobar region to improve their communication skills.

It is striving to enliven the spirit of Urdu language in the region and has inspired formation of other Urdu language clubs in the Kingdom. The club is conducting such poetry session once every month. This provides the poets in the region to present their works to the Urdu language lovers and at the same time enlighten them about the activities of the club in promoting the language.
