28% of marriages this year end in separation

BAHA — The Ministry of Justice records show that 28 percent of marriages in 2015 have ended in divorce, Al-Madinah reported.

A source from the ministry said during the past yea 161,067 marriages marriages took place and 44,839 of them ended in divorce.

“Riyadh had the highest number of divorce cases in 2015. A total of 36,783 marriages happened in Riyadh and 14,540 of them ended in divorce. Makkah had the highest number of marriages for the year 2015. A total of 44,174 marriages happened in Riyadh and 10,027 of them ended in divorce,” said the source.

The source said Madinah had 13,114 marriages and 2,996 of them ending in divorce.

“Qassim had 7,838 marriages, 2,025 of them ending in divorce. The Eastern Province had 13,440 cases, 4,993 of them ending in divorce. Asir had a total of 14,165 marriages, 2,741 of them ending in divorce. Tabuk had 5,568 marriages, 2,154 of them ending in divorce,” said the source.

The source also said Hail had 4,253 marriages, 1,128 of them ending in divorce.

“The Northern Borders had 2,399 marriages, 658 of them ending in divorce. Jazan had 10,042 marriages, 1,520 of them ending in divorce. Najran had 3,634 marriages, 808 of them ended in divorce. Baha had 2,586 marriages, 440 of them ended in divorce. Jouf had 3,071 marriages, 809 of them ended,” said the source.

The source also said there is a total of 5,623 licenses marriage officials in the Kingdom.

“Riyadh has 1,501 marriage officials. Makkah has 1,250. Asir has 965, Madinah has 383, Jazan has 350 and the Eastern Province has 255,” said the source.

The source said Baha has 214 marriage officiates, Qassim has 253 and Tabuk has 158.  Hail has 133 marriage officiates, Najran has 62, Jouf has 55 and the Northern Borders has 44, said the source.
