COVID-19 active cases top 12,000 for first time in many months as KSA reports 1,486 new infections

Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — Saudi Arabia on Wednesday recorded 1,486 new COVID-19 cases, marking a slight drop in new infections from Tuesday’s figure of 1,567, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health. The ministry also announced 15 more deaths from complications caused by COVID-19. This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 487,592 and the virus-related fatalities to 7,819. According to the ministry, a total of 1,055 people recovered over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 467,633. The Eastern region reported the highest number of new cases with 360, followed by the Makkah region with 317, the Riyadh region with 261, and the Asir region with 196 infections. The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom with just one of them reporting less than 10 infections. According to the ministry, there were 12,140 active cases and 1,406 of them were in critical condition.
